J.S BACH – THE VAST OCEAN - Part 2

By Le hai dang

Bach was born on March 21th 1685 in Eisenach in a musical family. His father, Johann Ambrosius Bach, was a local music teacher, and his mother was Maria Elisabeth Lammerhirt. From an early age, he learned violin with his older brother Johann Cristoph Bach (1671 – 1712) and Organ with his uncle Johann Cristoph Bach (1642 – 1703) – they shared the same name. Uncle Johann Cristoph Bach was an important person who had influenced J.S Bach a lot.He was the principle initiator who introduced regulation that family members studied at school until they were 14 years old, then quit school and studied on their own.Bach inherited the heritage and quintessence from family members. He was the point of convergence, spread, and made a milestone, not only for the family but also for the German and world music scene. Bach was named the great Bach to distinguish him from the other members, and was one of the two biggest stars in the sky of Baroque music.

From Veti Bach (died before 1578), who had just heard the water mill, played Zither at the milling mill, to J. S Bach, the Johann family spent 6 life making music, contributing to Germany 33 musicians, including 27 people taking on important positions in choir, organ church, local teacher or Royal musician. That tradition shows unbroken continuity until Bach was born. This is what makes us contemplate cultural transmission. Considering the purely professional aspect, it is not possible to express the role of tradition but to take into account the family environment with strict discipline to take up the role of education. Family tradition not only shows in the aspect of hereditary career but also has the ability to create qualities of genius.
